OK – What’s a responsive website?  In short, it’s a website that automatically reformat itself based on the visitors device.  This means your website visitors will have access to your content from a smart phone, tablet or PC all without you having to build and maintain multiple websites.

Benefits:

  • Saves you money – you only need one website and one set of data
  • Single content source – you only need to maintain one set of content
  • Image auto-scale – no need to create multiple thumb nails

Why bother? Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll no doubt have noticed that almost everyone has a smart phone – this means people are no longer tethered to a desk in order to brows the Internet in search of goods and services.  If your website is not mobile-friendly there’s a good chance users will skip it!

Is it easy to implement? Mostly. I have built a number of  websites using WordPress and responsive templates – this is a pretty good solution.

Is it perfect? Probably not, but it is fast becoming an accepted alternative to 3rd party smart phone website builders.

Is it for everyone? No. Content heavy websites are troublesome for smart phone users – who wants to wade through all that text.
